Bee U NYC (Bee U) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that engages urban communities through hands-on training in beekeeping, leadership, and environmental advocacy.

Bee U NYC envisions a New York City where every community has clear, equitable pathways into the green economy, starting with curiosity in the classroom and growing into paid experience and quality jobs.

Through urban beekeeping and environmental stewardship, we connect science learning, civic responsibility, and career preparation so that local ecosystems and local talent thrive together.

  • Hive Experiences & Educational Workshops

Bee U’s Hive Experiences are designed for participants 8 and older to safely engage with honey bees and learn more about these fascinating pollinators. This immersive experience is perfect for anyone curious about beekeeping.

At the end, participants enjoy a unique honey tasting, sampling honey varieties from around the world—including honey from Bee U NYC’s very own hives!

  • Youth Programs

Through school-based programs and the Urban Beekeeping Fellowship, youth engage in hive-centered learning that connects environmental science, climate literacy, and environmental justice to real-world experiences while building confidence and leadership skills.

For alumni ready to take the next step, the Green Jobs Pipeline offers paid, early-career work experience, mentorship, and professional skill-building through placements with Bee U NYC and mission-aligned partners. These programs create a clear pathway from learning to employment in the growing green economy.

  • Community Events

Bee U hosts free and paid events for people of all ages, creating inclusive opportunities for community members to explore urban beekeeping and environmental education.

One of the highlights is our annual Opening Day event, held each May at our flagship location in Staten Island’s Maker Park. This event welcomes the community to learn about honey bees, visit our hive area and pollinator garden, and enjoy hands-on activities that promote environmental awareness.

Our FY24 Impact Report
  • Your Donation - Hive Tools

By donating $30, you will help purchase a hive tool. Hive tools are used in many of our Bee U NYC programs, including the Urban Beekeeping Fellowship (UBF). Our UBF Fellows utilize various hive tools such as a j hook, hive frame grips, gloves, and more.

  • Your Donation - Honey Extractor

Donate $120 to help us share our decadent honey with the world, we utilize a honey extractor. Our Urban Beekeeping Fellowship Fellows also utilize the honey extractor during their Graduation Ceremony. A $120 donation will go towards purchasing a honey extractor.

  • Your Donation - Field Trips

A $300 donation supports field trip costs for our Urban Beekeeping Fellows. We want our Fellows to explore various aspects on environmentalism - from the Museum of Natural History, to cooking classes using honey-based products - our fellows learn in experiential ways.

  • Your Donation - Fellowship Stipends

A $1,250 donation to Bee U NYC directly supports the stipend of one Urban Beekeeping Fellow, funding a transformative educational experience that combines hands-on beekeeping training, environmental justice studies, and job skills in the green economy. Through this donation, a donor becomes a pivotal part of a Fellow’s journey and Bee U NYC’s mission to inspire the next generation of environmental leaders.
